The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) entered into a contract with Sea Operations SVG Ltd. on August 25, 2016, for renovations to the Dorsetshire Hill Government School.
The contract, worth some XCD 1.5 million, represents the lowest qualifying tender received, and is funded by the World Bank under the Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (RDVRP).
The works, which will rehabilitate the building to meet the emergency shelter standards of the National Emergency Management Organisation, forms part of government’s priority investments to reduce the country’s physical and economic vulnerability to adverse natural events through building resilience to current and future climatic changes.
The works, which includes the upgrade of the roof, installation of hurricane shutters, the replacement of windows, and improvements to the kitchen, rest rooms and external drainage, will commence on September 5, 2016 and is expected to last twelve (12) months.
The school has been temporarily relocated to the nearby Dorsetshire Hill Evangelical Church building for the duration of the works.
The RDVRP is supporting SVG’s efforts to prevent and adapt to the effects of climate change, strengthen hazard and risk evaluation, and improve decision making.
