"Payments deducted from salaries not going to NIS" Says Eustace

The leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace said he has heard rumors about monies not being paid to the NIS from workers’ salaries.

“And let me tell you something, I hearing some rumors, and am not calling them rumors, I believe some truth in it because it happened before.

“I am not speaking about the Government alone here”, but also some private sector, Eustace said while speaking on the radio Monday Morning.

Eustace said that money is what persons have to depend on for their pensions in the future, along with funeral benefits and other benefits.

“I keep saying the NIS is not to be tampered with. Eustace said that the NIS is an institution that should be able to survive multiple generations and he is deeply concerned.

The Opposition Leader said he understands 13 percent of St Vincent Population is now over 65 and that’s an ever increasing number.

“So when you do not pay over the deductions you take out from an individual salary, you don’t understand when they become pensionable they cannot get.

This is not the first time the leader of the Opposition is speaking to the issue of the National Insurance Services and person’s benefits.
