Classes resume at Canouan Government School

Teachers and Students returned to their classrooms at the Canouan Government School on Monday September 5th 2016, following repairs works conducted on the building during the School Summer vacation.

In June, this year, classes at the Canouan Government School were relocated to two churches on the island-the Canouan Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Canouan Anglican Church.

The decision to relocate the students and teachers was taken after large cracks appeared in the walls and floor of certain areas of the school building, raising concerns about the safety of its occupants.

Minister of Education, St. Clair Jimmy Prince in his Back to School message on Monday September 5th 2016, said restorative works on the School was carried out by contractor, Donovan DeRoche.

Minister Prince said he visited the school on August 29, 2016, and is satisfied with the quality of work.

“The teachers, students and parents, also their guardians can now feel comfortable in the school” he said.

The Minister of Education said his Ministry thanks the parents, students and teachers for their patience and understanding, and expressed gratitude to the leadership and membership of the Canouan Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Canouan Anglican Church for responding to the request of the Ministry for the use of their churches to house the students during the last few weeks of the last term.
