Female prisoners at Her Majesty’s Prisoner were the recipients of a generous donation of gift bags compliments Soroptimist International SVG (SISVG). Founded on October 3, 1921, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
On Friday, April 1, 2021, Ikarmola Laborde, President of Soroptimist International SVG handed over a quantity of gift bags containing female accouchements, toiletries and snacks to Cassandra McFee, matron at the female prison during a brief handing over ceremony.
According to Ms. Laborde, her organization thought it was befitting that they remember the females at Easter, so they embarked on a mission to provide the female prisoners with gift bags. She noted that their donation was a token of their love, support and appreciation for women throughout the world. She said though it was a small gesture, she hoped it goes a long way. She further expressed a willingness to work along with the female prison in the future
In accepting the gift bags, matron Cassandra McFee expressed gratitude to Soroptimist international SVG on behalf of Superintendent of Prisons, Timothy Hazelwood and the staff at Her Majesty’s Prison for their generosity. She said that the timely donation will go a long way in helping to meet the needs of the female inmates. She further stated that she looks forward for a continued relationship and expressed optimism about the future undertakings between both organizations.
