(By Ernesto Cooke) – Acting Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel says the testing of school children for COVID-19 is critical but must be done with the parent’s consent.
Daniel speaking on Star FM on Friday 28th May, said a teacher and student tested positive for the virus at one school on Thursday, 27th May 2021.
The acting Prime Minister said what is even more worrying is that of mass gathering.
“The observation according to the Ministry of Health is that there is a continuous neglect of social distancing, and so in terms of mass gatherings the protocols established would be enforced.”
“There would be no indoor dining, no gathering in public places, and the protocols would be maintained on public transport. In terms of churches, they are still down to their capacity of one-third. Parties, weddings, and funerals will have to maintain the protocols as required”.
Daniel said the Ministry is well aware that a space can be carved out if you are fully vaccinated.
“For instance, in the tourism industry where you have staff vaccinated, and where you have visitors who are fully vaccinated, this is indeed a different story, and the ministry of Health can carve out space.”
Daniel said the police from this weekend strengthen their response as to the enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols.
St Vincent has recorded over two thousand cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
