Lord Ashcroft’s socialite daughter-in-law Jasmine Hartin will remain in prison For Another Week
(Belize – Central America) – Jasmine Hartin, Daugther-in-Law of Tory donor Lord Ashcroft, will remain behind bars through the weekend.
Supreme Court Justice Herbert Lord adjourned Attorney Godfrey Smith’s bail request until next week.
According to the Mirror UK, Jasmine Hartin was told her first chance of bail would be June 9 after lawyers for the socialite appeared before the Central American country’s Supreme Court.
She is currently held in the notorious Belize Central Prison in Hattieville – as far removed as the lifestyle her billionaire family enjoys.
Hartin’s Godfrey Smith said outside the courthouse in downtown Belize City: ‘The matter has been adjourned. The public prosecution filed a short statement, just one sentence saying we object. On the basis of flight risk, nothing further.’
He said the judge has asked for total submissions to be filed by Friday.
Hartin was previously denied bail at the Magistrate Court in San Pedro on Monday.
Already locals have accused authorities of giving Mrs Ashcroft favorable treatment pointing out the rushed nature of Wednesday’s hearing.
Typically such bail appeals take place on Fridays.
Hartin” s attorney also indicated that the judge disapproves of all the media attention that this case has garnered.
