Representatives from fourteen countries across the region are participating in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) five days workshop. The workshop commenced on April 4, at the Sunset Shores Beach Hotel conference room and ends on Friday, April 8th.
In welcoming participants, Senior Executive Officer CIPO SVG, Ms. Annette Francois, said that the training is geared towards strengthening the efficiency of the information technology personnel throughout the region as it relates to the Intellectual Property Automation Systems (IPAS).
Head of the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean in the WIPO, Mrs. Carol Simpson, praised the staff of CIPO SVG for their warm reception. Simpson extended greetings from the WIPO Director General, Dr. Francis Gurry.
She also expressed her gratitude to WIPO for organising the regional training workshop that has been developed by Project Manager, WIPO Caribbean, Mr. Adel Baccouche, and his team.
According to Simpson, the workshop presents an opportunity to learn about the issues from regional participants, not only the problems but the good things that are happening as well. From her initial observations, Simpson is pleased to see the comradery that has developed among participants. She, therefore, has encouraged participants to pass on training that they will learn and not doing so means they would have failed.
Other facilitators for the workshop are: Project Manager, WIPO Caribbean, Mr. Adel Baccouche, Information Systems Specialist, Intellectual Property Office, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Zafir Ali.
The sessions will review status reports from representatives from each intellectual property office; IPAS JAVA 3.1.X new release – architecture overview; IPAS designer workshop (workflow perspective), and IPAS & cloud platform solutions, overview and practical case, among others.
