Sisters and future tennis stars Amarlia and Gabrielle Benn are now in a better position as they gear up to take part in the ITF Junior Tournament in Tobago, from August 15th-20th, 2017.
Philanthropist and Tennis Coach Deron Grant who currently resides in Oman, sponsored the sister’s airfare to the tune of $2000.00.
Speaking to News784, mother, Karen Anderson said she is more than grateful to Deron for giving her children an excellent start, and even now more so for his assistance in getting them to Trinidad.
“Deron and I played junior tennis together for many years”.
“He started coaching my twin daughters when they were about seven years old; the lessons took place at the courts at Montrose”.
Anderson told News784 as a coach, Deron was excellent with younger children, and always very encouraging.
“He kept on pushing them, and expected the very best from them, he imparted sound techniques and was very committed to his job as a coach”, Anderson said.
“When he left St Vincent we stayed in touch as he was still very much interested in the girls’ progress”.
Karen told News784 that the girls’ participation in the ITF Junior Circuit in Trinidad later this month, after the ITF tournament here, is a reality, because of Deron’s involvement.
Amarlia and Gabby are currently the top female players in SVG, ranked #1 and #2 respectively.
