Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves left the state on Friday, July 8th, 2016 to attend the State Funeral of former Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Patrick Manning who died last Saturday, July 2 as a result of acute myeloid leukemia.
Mr. Manning served as Prime Minister from December 17, 1991, to November 9, 1995, and from December 24, 2001, to May 26, 2010.
He was the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, having represented the San Fernando constituency for the People’s National Movement (PNM) from 1971 up until his retirement from politics in February 2015.
The state funeral service will take place from 10am on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, in Port-of-Spain.
According to the Trinidad Guardian Online News, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves along with Trinidad and Tobago’s President Anthony Carmona and Prime Minister Keith Rowley are among those expected to speak at the service.
