St Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says the technical teams from Guyana and Venezuela are working to meet.
That technical team meeting is expected in Brazil before Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro’s second meeting.
Prime Minister Gonsalves wrote to both Presidents on Thursday, “I am profoundly encouraged by the letter dated January 2, 2024 from the President of Guyana to the President of Venezuela in respect of arranging the first meeting of “The Joint Commission” in Brasilia to advance “the Argyle Declaration” and its purposes.”
As agreed upon, the Joint Commission includes Foreign Ministers and technical experts from both nations.
The two presidents met in December in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. After their discussion, all sides signed an 11-point agreement promising to “refrain, whether by words or deeds, from escalating any conflict.”
Both presidents agreed to meet in Brazil three months later.
