A new swarm of Volcano-Tectonic (VT) earthquakes began at the La Soufrière Volcano St Vincent, at 6:38 am today.
It Appears That Panic May Have Begun To Take Hold In Northern Communities; the alert level remains Orange.
(By Ernesto Cooke) – Residents in the North-Eastern community of Fancy report heavier rumblings and earthquakes on Monday afternoon.
NEMO on Monday morning said a new swarm of Volcano-Tectonic (VT) earthquakes began at the La Soufrière Volcano at 6:38 am today.
The numbers and magnitudes of these earthquakes increased until about 8:30 am, after which they continued at a reasonably steady rate.
Reports from Fancy are that some residents are becoming overwhelmed due to the earthquakes, with persons dressed and waiting in their homes.
Another report to News784 is that several vehicles have left with persons going in the direction of Owia.
In the North-Western community of Chateaubelair, Residents told News784 that it would be the first time they have felt earthquakes associated with the recent activity at La Soufriere.
Reports to News784 are that two earthquakes were felt in Chateaubelair at 11.30 and midday.
This new swarm of Volcano-Tectonic earthquakes have been located at a depth around 6 km below the summit of La Soufrière; they are slightly more profound than the Volcano-Tectonic earthquake activities recorded between the 22ndand 25th of March, 2021, which were located at depths from 3 to 5 km below the summit.
The largest Volcano-Tectonic earthquake occurred at 9:20 am with a magnitude of 3.5 and was felt by residents living close to the volcano. Other VT earthquakes may have also been felt.
The alert level remains at Orange. The National Emergency Management Organisation is reminding the public that no evacuation order or notice has been issued.
