As part of his call for urgent reform of global institutions, Ram Nath Kovind has called for the UN Security Council to play an important role in reflecting global realities.

On Thursday, Kovind, the first Indian Head of State to visit Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, spoke at a special House Assembly session and said that multilateralism is as relevant today as it has ever been in the history of our planet.

“India and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines-Towards an Inclusive World Order” was the topic of the sitting assembly.

All nation-states should use multilateralism as an instrument to promote strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth. For multilateralism to remain relevant and effective, institutions must be reformed, he said.

Building structures and institutions after the two world wars focused on one major issue – preventing a third world war. Taking on the complex issues of today requires a world order that is inclusive, where every country can express its legitimate interests, he said.

He further explained that India’s objective in advocating for inclusive global order is to promote a universal, rules-based, open, transparent, predictable, non-discriminatory, and equitable multilateral system.
