Kingstown SVG: June 17th, 2016 – The Board of Commission of the National Commission on Crime Prevention (NCCP) was on Friday June 17th introduced to their chairperson. Ms. La Teisha Sandy, Deputy Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) was introduced as the new Chairperson of the NCCP by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mr. Godfred Pompey.
Ms. Sandy is taking over from Mr. Grenville Williams who resigned as Chairman earlier this year to take up a job appointment abroad.
Speaking at a brief meeting convened to introduce the new Chairperson and members to the Commission, Permanent Secretary Pompey thanked Deputy Chairman, Dr. George Frederick for taking charge of the Commission on the departure of Mr. Williams.
In addressing the Commission, the new Chair thanked the Permanent Secretary and the Government for the confidence in naming her as Chairperson of the Organization. She noted that while there may be several challenges relating to crime and violence in the country, she was confident that if the necessary partnerships are formed these incidents will be brought under control in time.
Ms. Sandy noted that the issue of crime and violence affects every Vincentian so we all as citizens have a vital role to play in it being brought under control.
Deputy Chairman, Dr. George Frederick, Director of the NCCP, Mrs. Nicola Evans and all the members of the Commission joined in welcoming Ms. Sandy as Chair and pledged to work together for the betterment of the NCCP and SVG.
The National Commission on Crime Prevention was created by an act of Parliament on February 20, 2003 by the then Minister of National Security, Hon. Sir Vincent Beach and was seconded by Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves.
