Director of Libraries Michelle King-Campbell would like to see more children engrossed in reading. King-Campbell said this could happen if parents and guardians engage their children.
The Head of Libraries said this would ultimately develop the unique traits of children as they explore a variety of subject matters. She highlighted that the abilities of children can be strengthened through the involvement of parents and guardians and encouraged them to visit the library with their children.
She advised, “Reacquaint yourself with reading, read out aloud every day with your child. Help your child choose books that interest them. Give children the tools to discover and unleash their abilities. See what other programmes and services the library has to offer to enroll your child.”
King-Campbell also took the opportunity to congratulate the 69 participants of the recently held Children Library’s Annual Programme (CLAP) which was held under the theme, “Discover and Unleash.”
Also dubbed “CLAP for Fun” – the revamped initiative which is in its 10th year, is part of the overall Children’s Library Programme which began in 1986.
The Library Director said after a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the children ages 5-12 years enjoyed activities such as sports, craft and literature.
She expressed gratitude to her team at the Public Library for helping the participants discover their interests and unleash their genius.
