Kingstown, St. Vincent-September 1st, 2016- On Friday, August 25th, the Lions Club St. Vincent South distributed cheques to their scholarship holders who will be starting the new school year in form five.
The cheques were presented to the parents of Joshuanna Alexander, Britney Browne and Chante Toby. The scholarship grant to each student is valued in excess of EC$1500.00 and covers meals, uniform, transportation and school supplies.
Speaking at the brief handing over ceremony, President Lion Dr Jose Davy pleaded with the students to work hard as they prepare to write their CSEC exams, she also encouraged the parents to continue to take an active role in their child’s education.
The scholarship distribution programme of the Lions Club St. Vincent South forms part of the club’s annual education and youth programme which started some 20 years ago with donations initially to visually impaired students.
The scholarship programme has also been extended to provide part time sponsorship of meals and transportation to other students as well.
Joshuanna Alexander and Britney Browne are both students of the St. Vincent Girls High School while Chante Toby is a student of the St. Joseph’s Convent, Kingstown.
The next major activity of the Lions Club St. Vincent South is the annual Secondary School’s Public Speaking Competition in October; the preliminaries will commence on Tuesday, October 4th and will conclude on Friday, October 7th.
