Minor Repairs are currently being done to the AIA runway; this was made public by Senator Julian Francis.
Speaking on the radio to clarify the situation, Minister of Transport and Works Julian Francis said during the grooving process of the entire runway, which aids in the prevention of hydroplaning or skidding, especially for jets, workers discovered weak areas in the runway wearing coat approximately two inches of asphalt from the top.
According to Senator Francis, an assessment by specialists proved that there were areas of the runway with weak material and so they decided to do immediate repair work on 3-4% of the runway.
He further noted that repair work is only being done on the runway and no other area of the AIA site is being fixed.
