Plans are advancing with regards to a number of developments set to form part of the modern infrastructure for St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Prime Minister Gonsalves on Tuesday said Government had engaged technical personnel from (UNOPS) United Nations Operations, about preliminary work on the new city at Arnos Vale.
Gonsalves said there had been long discussions and a committee has been set up in relation to the work.
In February of this year, Derek Chin, Chairman of Trinidad-based Company Movie Towne Cineplex who would be part of the private sector development at Arnos Vale, told the Agency for Public Information in an interview, that the investment will change the landscape of where people can go and enjoy themselves in a safe environment which mainly focuses on family development.
PM Gonsalves also stated that the designs for the Acute Referal Hospital are ongoing.
“ We should get within another 14-18 months the complete design with all that is required to be placed inside of such structure”.
The Unity Labour Party in their 2015 Election manifesto said part of their plans for this term would be the start-up of a modern city at the former E.T. Joshua Airport consequent upon the commencement of operations of the Argyle International Airport.
Gonsalves also said that the government is still negotiating the power purchase agreement with partners on the geothermal project.
“There are some difficult sticking points, and we are working to resolve them because that’s an important matter both for the country as a whole and for consumers of electricity.
In regards to AIA Gonsalves said later this year a number of other airlines coming out of North America are set to begin operations here.
Air Canada had announced in May the continued expansion of its international network with the addition of St. Vincent.
The addition of the first long-haul, international scheduled service to St. Vincent starts Dec. 14, 2017.
