Soroptimist International of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in a release said they were thrilled and ecstatic when their Scholarship Awardee graduated from St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College with an Associate Degree in Tourism & Hospitality Studies on September 28, 2022, in Victoria Park, Kingstown.
Among the graduates was a young lady named Zalacher Baptiste. Zalacher was traumatized by assaults, and her plight came to our attention. She became a Mother at a very young age. Coping skills and family support were not readily available. Our Club stepped in to fill the breach.
She and her daughter were mentored by Sis Lady Kathyn and her daughter Rachel. The care and attention of a Surrogate Big Sister and an Auntie transformed her life. She became Deputy Head Girl of Intermediate High School and the Club Sisters were so impressed by her determination that sponsorship continued through College.
Soroptimist International has also now sponsored another female student who is currently attending Secondary School, and 12 other young ladies collected their school bursary payments recently which would also allow them to stay in school.
