(By Ernesto Cooke) – St Vincent’s Health Minister St Clair Prince says the government is delighted to be the recipient of another batch of COVID -19 vaccines.
Prince said the government believes, as the medical experts, that vaccines are a way to end the pandemic.
“As a result, this government has always been trying to procure vaccines from all sources possible to ensure that Vincentian’s has access to this very vital item”.
Prince says COVID-19 has disrupted social life, the education of children, the economy, health, and well-being, and no effort must be spared to fight the current scourge.
“All of us must be on board; I heap praises on our health care workers, the vaccination figure is just under 12,000, although the uptake has been slow we are not daunted”, Prince said.
The health minister said every day; new strategies are implemented to counter the misinformation about the vaccines.
“I am taking this opportunity to appeal to the many hesitant Vincentians to do your research and inform yourself about COVID-19 and the vaccine”.
Prince said contracting the disease is not a picnic and urge Vincentians to protect themselves and be vaccinated.
“The vaccine is available, it is safe, and it is free”, he said.
Prince noted that the positivity rate has been falling, and many have been dropping their guard; he appealed to Vincentians to follow the protocols.
St Vincent and the Grenadines received 24,000 vaccines on Wednesday under the COVAX program.
