Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, who is unwell, will miss today’s (Thursday 24 March) sitting of parliament.

Gonsalves on Thursday morning said he would have escaped COVID but caught the flu that is currently circulating.

“It has really mash me up, a lot of stuffiness, headache, naturally all the inflammation you have to get it out of your system, and then I developed the coughing and bronchitis”.

“It caught me when I was tired; I pushed myself to the limits, so my body became susceptible”.

Gonsalves said he knew it was not COVID because, from the beginning, he had none of the symptoms associated with the virus.

“On Saturday, I took a rapid test, and it was negative. On Wednesday, I took a PCR just in case I could go to parliament, which is also negative. So it’s not a COVID situation”.

Gonsalves said the order paper for the parliament session today is long. However, the rest of the cabinet is prepared.

The Virtual Asset bill is expected to be debated today in parliament.
