St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says he was advised to get tested for COVID-19 following exposure to a person who tested positive for the virus.
Gonsalves speaking on WEFM radio said he would have been in contact with a scholarship recipient last week who tested positive for COVID -19.
Gonsalves stated that the Taiwan Embassy called and informed him that one of the students he gave a certificate to on Friday tested positive.
“So I reported it to the CMO. I am at home at the moment. I remember this thing with the Taiwanese when they asked me, I had some apprehension, but you know how I am. I had said to them we should have the students alone, they were there and spaced out, and I would have been with them momentarily, those that I gave the certificate to”.
Gonsalves said the work of the country had been disrupted.
“The cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday 6 October was postponed. I will be working from home, and I have postponed all of my meetings for the rest of the week”.
Gonsalves said some people are not taking Covid–19 seriously.
“Many of us would have got the COVID, but this is what happens when people don’t take this seriously. I had the World Food Programme head in the region coming to see me on Thursday 7 October to present his credentials, and I told him we would have to put it off until next week”.
