Temporary Bridges’ completion is an early Christmas gift for North Windward – MP
Residents who attempt the treacherous crossings at the rivers in Overland and Sandy Bay could get some relief before Christmas, which is only 52 days away.
Wednesday, while speaking on NBC radio, the North Windward representative gave an update on the construction of temporary bridges spanning both the Overland and Noel rivers.
Daniel reported that the contractor had begun installing the steel frame into the wing walls of the existing structure.
“Here, the steel frame has been installed, and as the steel frame rises, the walkway’s side is also being installed. “The construction is truly taking form and is beginning to take the shape you desire.”
“From what I gather, the completion date is probably around November’s end. “I am quite pleased with the current state of construction.” I would like to inform the North Windward constituency, particularly north of the river, and the area that has been affected over the past few months in terms of access, that the temporary bridges will be in place and operational by early December as a Christmas gift from the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines”.
Daniel stated that upon completion, residents will have easier access to travel north or south of the Overland and Noel rivers.
“It is indeed a great feeling, and I’m sure that the people who will be using the bridges will be feeling much happier at this time with those structures in place.”
The Bailey Bridge at Overland will be double-laned and 30 metres long, with a cantilevered deck for pedestrians. The single-lane, 30-meter-long Bailey Bridge at Noel will also feature a cantilevered walkway.
Component 2 of the Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project (VEEP) is funding work at Overland and Noel, which commenced in August of 2022.
The VEEP is sponsored by the World Bank (IDA credit) and the Caribbean Regional Resilience Building Facility, which is funded by the European Union.
