The National Workers Movement and the company that now operates the Ottley Hall Shipyard and Marina have come to an agreement after months of wrangling.
Before the agreement was signed, General Secretary of the NWM, Noel Jackson, leveled accusations that the company, St Vincent Shipyard, was deducting monies from workers salaries and not paying any into the government coffers.
Jackson also raised the issue that the company was refusing to sign a collective agreement with the Union and prime minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves was asked to step in.
It is not clear as to how accurate Jackson’s claims were, but Dr. Gonsalves recently stated that those who deduct monies from salaries to be handed over to the government, could be faced with a civil claim and also criminal charges.
