Venezuela: President Maduro To Present Anti-Blockade Bill
Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro on Sunday announced that he will present an Anti-Blockade Constitutional Bill to the National Constituent Assembly (ANC). During his intervention in the meeting of the Presidential Commission for the Control and Prevention of COVID-19, he informed about this initiative to fight the U.S. arbitrary sanctions. “It is an Anti-Blockade Bill that has been created and studied with the help of international and worldwide experts in the matter”, Maduro pointed out.
“Venezuela has to protect itself urgently against so many attacks and shield its economy… to undertake an economic, financial, and social recovery”, he added.
UK Court of Appeals Overturns London High Court Decision on Venezuelan Gold, Lawyer Says
Since Juan Guaido declared himself acting president of Venezuela in January 2019 instead of elected head of state Nicolás Maduro, the Bank of England has expressed uncertainty over the fate of the gold reserves stored in its vaults and who should be entitled to them.
The Venezuelan Central Bank (BCV) has won the first round of appeals against a ruling by the High Court of England and Wales, a lawyer revealed.
The UK High Court earlier recognized the opposition politician Juan Guaido as “interim president” of Venezuela and gave him the right to access the country’s gold reserves. Now, the UK Court of Appeals has rejected this position and ordered a detailed judicial review of the dispute.
Venezuela Is the 1st LATAM Country to Receive Russia’s Vaccine
Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez on Friday announced that the country received the first batch of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 and that the nation is ready to begin phase 3 of its clinical trials. “Our country just became the first nation in the Western Hemisphere to join studies for the first COVID-19 vaccine registered in the world,” Rodriguez recalled.
The arrival of the first batch is “the result of large exchanges between Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and Venezuela’s Ministry of Health,” the representative at the Russian Embassy in Venezuela Alexey Seredin added.
If the vaccine proves to be effective during the stage of its third clinical trial, the drug will be applied to the entire population of Venezuela.
Venezuela’s CNE discloses offer for Parliamentarians
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) presented its candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on December 6th. According to the president of the electoral management body, Indira Alfonso Izaguirre, more than 14,000 political contenders in the elections have registered to hold a seat in the legislative branch.
The main rector of the CNE argued that “here, what will prevail is peace, what will prevail is unity between all of us here; and on December 6th there will be parliamentary elections and we guarantee that there will be peace and democracy,” he added.
UN approves a resolution to strengthen human rights cooperation with Venezuela
The UN Human Rights’ Council approved at its 45th session a resolution on strengthening cooperation and technical assistance in the human rights field in Venezuela, with a call for dialogue in the South American nation. The project was presented by Iran, Syria, Turkey and Venezuela and was approved by the votes of 14 countries against seven. In addition, 26 countries abstained.
The text underlines the “importance of constructive dialogue and cooperation with the State concerned, in order to strengthen its ability to fulfill its human rights obligations”.
Venezuela reports fraudulent consular procedures in Brazil
Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza reported that “fictitious authorities” are issuing documents and conducting consular formalities on behalf of the state for Venezuelan citizens in Brazil. By an official statement issued in the official account of the chancellor, Jorge Arreaza, addressed to the international community and the Venezuelan people, that the authorities reported the “fraudulent activities of alleged consular nature, carried out by persons who intend to usurp the legitimate Venezuelan consular service”, adds the text.
Venezuela reiterates UN’s need to eliminate nuclear weapons
Venezuela’s Foreign Minister; Jorge Arreaza spoke through a pre-recorded video at the UN General Assembly’s high-level meeting on nuclear weapons in which, he expressed deep concern about the global arms race.
Arreaza endorsed, on behalf of the Venezuelan Government, the declaration of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries in this regard in which they underline the “unpostponable need for the elimination of nuclear weapons”. The Chancellor of Venezuela recalled that Caracas has always condemned the investigation, improvement, use, threat of use and other actions related to nuclear weapons, a position he holds unchanged.
Venezuela reports presence of U.S. warship 16.1 nautical miles off its coast
Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the intimidating intentions of the U.S. Southern Command, which positioned a guided missile destroyer ship in Venezuela’s contiguous zone at a distance of 16.1 nautical miles off the coast of the South American nation.
Through a statement, the Chancellery detailed that the U.S. warship recognized the authority of the Venezuelan state in responding to radio communications from the Bolivarian Navy, claiming that it conducted anti-drug patrol operations. The Chancellery emphasized that this is clearly a “deliberate act of provocation, otherwise erratic and childish”. He added that this action “highlights the little professional rigor of U.S. Southern Command.”
Venezuela rejects EU conditioning for 6D elections
The Venezuelan Chancellery rejected the conditions established by the European Union (EU) to observe the next legislative elections on the 6th of December. In a statement issued by the diplomatic entity, they said that “in the face of the formal invitation of the Electoral Authority to join the observation process, it is regrettable that the European Union responds with a list of conditions with the aim of ignoring even taxative constitutional mandates, in an inadmissible act that does not correspond to the spirit of the invitation made”.
Previously, the EU’s European External Action Service (SEAE) stated in a statement that “You cannot consider sending an election observation mission” if the elections are not postponed for a while, to open a space for dialogue and generate “an improvement of democratic and electoral conditions”.
