Hudson Kenuet Rohan Prescod, a 40-year-old St Vincent man, has been charged with importing a Class A drug.
Prescod, of no fixed UK address, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on May 23.
The investigation has been passed to the National Crime Agency.t As a PASSENGER arriving at Gatwick he was caught by Border Force officers attempting to smuggle around 2kg of cocaine hidden in the false bottom of a suitcase.
Officers made the discovery last Sunday when he was stopped after arriving on a flight from St Lucia.
Sue Young, Border Force South Director, said: “Border Force officers play a crucial role in securing our borders against drug smuggling. In this case, their professionalism has meant that dangerous class A drugs have been seized and will no longer end up in our communities where they can do a lot of harm.
“Working closely with law enforcement colleagues at the NCA we are determined to prevent drug trafficking and put those responsible behind bars.”
Border Force officers use an array of search techniques including sniffer dogs, carbon dioxide detectors, heartbeat monitors and scanners – as well as visual searches – to find well-hidden stowaways, illegal drugs, firearms and tobacco which would otherwise end up causing harm to local people, businesses and communities.
