As the mainstay of reliable information, entertainment and impactful conversation, WEFM is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The station began broadcasting on April 18, 1997. It brought a fresh perspective to news, information, entertainment, and culture, which people had been looking for.
When WEFM was conceptualized, Jules Williams, Willis Williams and Cleve Scott were all members of Touch.
WEFM’s early days were terrible…terrible, terrible. Jules and I would go up St. Andrew frequently as the station would go off air, sometimes four or five times in one evening, and sometimes he would say, “Ok, let’s wait until morning, let’s do it in the morning”, that was in the early days. Eventually, we overcame those early hurdles and WEFM got moving,” Dr Scott said.
WEFM has been home to groundbreaking and influential programs throughout its 25 years, including Shake-Up, Issues at Hand, Feedback, Sunday Classics, Sunday Cruise, Your Health Matters, Calypso College, and Scriptural Search, among others.
Since WEFM was founded, many legendary voices have graced its studios, voices like the late Evans Bernard John, known as E.B., who played a pivotal role in various aspects of the station, including the Issues at Hand program and WEFM’s News Department.
As we celebrate 25 years of operation, we pledge to continue to provide you with the quality programming you’ve come to expect from us.
